10:30 am – Noon – Keynote Address w/ Doug Tallamy, Professor and Chair of the Department of Entomology & Wildlife Ecology @ University of Delaware:

“Bringing Nature Home” – Because our yards and gardens are part of the terrestrial ecosystems that sustain humans and the life around us, it is essential that we keep them in working order.  Doug Tallamy will discuss the important ecological roles of the plants in our landscapes, emphasize the benefits of designing gardens with these roles in mind, and explore the consequences of failing to do so.  Gardening in this crowded world carries both moral and ecological responsibilities that we can no longer ignore.  Doug’s presentation will also be open to the general public.  Public attendance will be limited to 75 people.  For details on cost and registration please see below.

Green Works Industry Award Winners Presentation of Projects.  The winners of the 2012 Industry Awards Program will present their winning entries complete with a description of their project and photos.

“Pests & Diseases – New and Old” with Ann Hazelrigg, Plant Diagnostic Clinic, University of Vermont.   Ann will provide an overview of diseases, both old as well as new ones on the horizon, how to identify them and the best practices to control them.   Ann will also speak about some new insect pests to keep an eye out for and  touch on some information about invasives.   Earns one pesticide credit.

“Social Media Marketing Made Simple” with Corissa St. Laurent, Constant Contact’s Director of Regional Development in New England.     Learn the essential strategies and best practices for successful social media marketing including discussion of various social media networks and tools, how to develop relationships, drive sales, and engagement, as well as how to incorporate social media into your business without losing productivity.  If you are not using social media yet or want to learn more on how to enhance what you are doing you do not want to miss this talk!

Speaker Profiles

Doug Tallamy

Doug is Professor and Chair of the Department of Entomology and Wildlife Ecology and director of the Center for Managed Ecosystems at the University of Delaware where he has authored 78 research articles and has taught Insect Taxonomy, Behavioral Ecology, and other courses for 31 years. Chief among his research goals is to better understand the many ways insects interact with plants and how such interactions determine the diversity of animal communities. His book “Bringing Nature Home; How Native Plants Sustain Wildlife in Our Gardens” was published by Timber Press in 2007 and was awarded the 2008 silver medal by the Garden Writer’s Association

Ann Hazelrigg

Ann has been the Diagnostician in the University of Vermont Plant Diagnostic Clinic for almost 30 years. In addition to her diagnostic responsibilities, she provides oversight for the Master Gardener Program, runs the Pesticide Education and Safety Program for UVM and works on IPM programs with a wide variety of crops, pests and diseases.

Corissa St. Laurent

Corissa is Constant Contact’s Director of Regional Development and educational marketing expert in New England. Corissa has 10 years experience supporting small business, with a background in relationship marketing, new media marketing, event marketing, brand consulting, PR, and education. Corissa is passionate about helping people achieve their dreams and learn new skills. As a former small business owner, having founded and operated two businesses before joining Constant Contact, she understands the dedication and resources that make a small business work and the marketing that is necessary to make them succeed. She has served on various nonprofit boards, volunteering her time to assist with marketing and organization development. Corissa draws from this experience to be a valuable resource to New England small businesses, nonprofits, and associations.  She has educated over 20,000 people on behalf of Constant Contact since joining the team in June of 2009 and looks forward to educating many more on the power of engagement marketing and easy ways to grow their businesses.

EXHIBITORS

Green Works/Vermont Nursery & Landscape Association would like to invite you to exhibit at our Annual Winter Meeting and Trade Show on Wednesday,  February 13, 2013.  The meeting will be held at the University of Vermont-Davis Center, US Route 2/Main Street/Williston Road, Burlington, VT.    We expect 100-150 attendees to visit our Winter Meeting & Trade Show and have set aside time throughout the day for attendees to visit exhibitors.

Exhibitor registration includes full meeting attendance for one representative and includes morning refreshments, lunch, and admission to the educational seminars.  Each registered exhibitor will be provided a 6’ skirted banquet table.  The meeting begins at 8:00 a.m. and ends at approximately 4:00 p.m.  Please complete the enclosed registration form and return it to the Green Works/VNLA office by January 7, 2013.

SET-UP:  Set-up time is between 6:30 am – 8 am Wednesday morning.   We will be scheduling load-in times for vendors.  Once you register we will email you a vendor information form with specifics.  Registration for attendees begins at 8 am.
