SUMMARY:VNLA Summer Twilight Gathering: Hidden Gardens Tour 7/17/25
DESCRIPTION:July 17\, 2025 – 6pm – 8pm\nHidden Gardens Tour\n693 Lewis Creek Road\nHinesburg\, VT  05461\nRefreshments and snacks will be served.  There is no fee to attend.\nPlease RSVP:  kristina@vnlavt.org\n\n\nA little more than 35 years ago\, owner Marcia Pierce and garden designer/garden builder\, Paul Wieczoreck\, began a collaboration that lasted until Marcia’s passing three years ago. From an initial foundation planting featuring late 80’s classics such as spreading yews junipers and PJM rhododendrons\, the gardens have grown continuously in scale and diversity and now cover over two acres. The bi-level garden\, connected by a constructed cascading stream through a woodland garden\, features a variety of specimen woody ornamentals which provide the framework for a host of herbaceous plants. The upper garden level where the home is located\, includes a unique walled sunken garden\, a rock garden and a conifer garden\, all knitted together by a fine collection of herbaceous perennials. The lower level\, carved out of a beautiful forest adorned with two ponds and a natural stream\,  contains a series of island beds anchored by maturing\, slow-growing conifers. \n\nAlthough not the hard core plant lover his wife was\, Marcia’s husband Peter McNaull has continued to maintain this very special Vermont garden\, and is always eager to host garden enthusiasts from throughout the region.  We hope you can join us for this very special tour led by Paul Wieczoreck.

SUMMARY:VNLA Summer Twilight Tour: Taylor Park 8/14/25
DESCRIPTION:August 14\, 2025 – Thursday – 6:00 – 7:30 pm\nTaylor Park Tour\n36 N. Main Street\nSt. Albans\, VT  05478\nRefreshments and snacks will be served.  There is no fee to attend.\nPlease RSVP:  kristina@vnlavt.org\nVNLA member Kelly Wakefield is the garden curator and tree stewardess of this historic public park. She and her husband maintain the St. Albans downtown streetscape plantings.  We will meet at the gazebo near the fountain to begin the tour. \nTaylor Park is a 4-acre oasis of tranquility offering respite from small town urban life.  The park was established in 1792 and named after Colonel Holloway Taylor\, who donated the land in 1870.  You can listen to the water splashing in the Historic Fountain “The Ladies” from the 1880’s (recast in the early 2\,000’s) and see pollinators buzzing around the formal Promenade Gardens. \nAs we stroll down Main Street you will learn about the streetscape plantings\, rain gardens and the municipal hanging baskets. The mood changes as you head to the south end of the park where the large maples dominate the park.  Along the back of the park is an impressive 700 foot garden with many shrubs and hardy perennials.\n\nCome and learn some Vermont history as you enjoy this fantastic community green space. \nParking is available at St.Marys Parish Hall on Hospital Drive next to the Army tank or behind the St. Albans Museum.  You can also use any public parking space along the park.  Bathrooms are available in the new Sugar House within the park.

SUMMARY:VNLA Fall Twilight Gathering: Verterra Tree & Shrub Nursery Tour 9/25/25
DESCRIPTION:September 25\, 2025 – Thursday – 5:30 – 7:00 pm\nVerterra Tree & Shrub Nursery Tour\n18 Baldwin Road\nHinesburg\, VT  05461\nRefreshments and snacks will be served.  There is no fee to attend.\nPlease RSVP:  kristina@vnlavt.org\n\n\n\n\nJoin us for a tour of the relatively new Verterra Tree and Shrub Nursery\, a cooperatively owned nursery specializing in growing and propagating native trees and shrubs for conservation and residential plantings.  The three owners\, David Berg\, Nick Kierstead\, and Sam have over 30 years combined agricultural experience.  They are deeply committed to the restoration and preservation of watersheds through native tree propagation.   Every aspect of their operations is guided by principles of ecological stewardship. From sourcing seeds responsibly to employing sustainable cultivation practices\, they strive to minimize their environmental footprint while maximizing the positive impact of their efforts. \nVerterra partners with conservation organizations\, watershed management authorities\, and local communities and actively contributes to the restoration and protection of critical riparian zones and wetland habitats. Through these collaborative initiatives\, they aim to not only plant trees but also to nurture thriving ecosystems that are resilient to environmental challenges. \n\nThey are currently growing their inventory from seeds and vegetative cuttings. The goal is to produce a majority of their plants from local and regional provenance. This will take a number of years to achieve. In the meantime\, they will be supplementing with plants of Vermont and New England native species that have been sourced from other nurseries. Learn more about Verterra HERE. \nWe hope you can join us! \n\n\n\n
